The Workout: Songwriting is part of the Music District’s signature Workout series—hands-on, cohort-based, and built for working musicians. This immersive, multi-week program is for songwriters who write both music and lyrics and want to dial in their craft, push their writing in new directions, stay creatively accountable, and showcase their new works alongside a group of other serious artists.

Guided by experienced songwriters and industry professionals, the program takes place onsite at the Music District over the course of seven weeks, making space for both creative growth and authentic connection within a community of driven peers.

Through weekly writing exercises, collaborative co-writing sessions, song shares, and guided feedback, participants will deepen their command of melody, harmony, song form, lyric writing, and more.

The Workout: Songwriting wraps with a live showcase where participants perform their new songs, share them with peers and collaborators, and receive feedback from industry professionals.

PAST PROGRAM MENTORS include Megan Burtt, Karissa Bone, and Claire Ernst.

Applicants will be notified of their status within 2–3 weeks of the application deadline.

Demonstrating strong songwriting ability is a key factor in the selection process, but we also consider how each participant will contribute to the overall dynamic of the cohort. We believe the program is strongest when the group is made up of driven, community-minded musicians with diverse experience, abilities, and perspectives.

The ideal Workout participant is someone:
    (1) whose vision and artistic commitment are clear through the links and written entries submitted.
    (2) who is community-minded (e.g., open to collaboration, excited to share skills and experience, willing to test new approaches, and ready to support and respect others in the process).
    (3) who represents a unique perspective, experience, style, and/or musical skillset.
