Quinn DeVeaux and and band pay homage to the influences that inspired their life in music, with special emphasis on the songs that pushed soul and R&B music forward. Quinn DeVeaux will cover the history of R’n’B & Soul from Sam Cooke, Chris Kenner, Wilson Pickett, Bo Diddley, Ray Charles to Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Kool & the Gang and many more. The band will discuss each artist and their influence, and follow discussion with their own unique performance of the song. There will also be an open forum conversation where the band will answer audience questions about music, history, arrangement approaches and futher questions that arise.

My name is Quinn DeVeaux and I would love to help you elevate your craft to the next level! I’ve been playing, writing music, recording and performing for over 20 years in many styles of music including Funk, R&B, Blues, Rock and New Orleans. Learn technique, ear training, songs, composition, arranging, style, songwriting, use of equipment on stage/in the studio, and more! Beginners are more than welcome. I will teach you the basics of guitar playing and songwriting to help get your project where you want it to be.

My name is Joe Lewis and I have been immersed in music full time for 22 Years.
Growing up musically in the Oakland Ca. Jazz/Gospel/Soul/R’n’B community as a teenager, I received a very deep and broad music and spiritual education. Playing with the Jazz greats Donald “Duck” Bailey ( Drummer for Jimmy Smith, John Coltrane & many more. ), Herbie Lewis ( Les McCann and others) and many more, opened me up to the magnitude of music and the power it has to improve life.
I have recorded on over 300 albums and produce albums, arrangements, compositions. I work as a musical director & band Leader, tour booking and management.
I love working with people on music. Finding the keys to unlock the truth behind the music. I offer Lessons in Bass ( upright and Electric ), Composition/Arranging, Bandleading  & Tour managing.

 

Aj Mckinley: Guitar, Synthesizers/MIDI, Songwriting/Theory, How to Effectively Use Effects Pedals
AJ McKinley is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, musical theorist and teacher from San Francisco, CA (by way of Santa Cruz, CA). For the past 12+ years he has been performing with various groups in every style imaginable.  His primary musicial interests are the science of record production (i.e. arranging, orchestration, engineering, effects and textures, etc.) as well as the harmonic/melodic language of pop music. Through study, analysis and experimentation he seeks to understand the mechanisms of popular music, as well as the various ways they can be subverted, expanded and developed.  His ultimate goal is to discover/create a style of music that is entirely new and contemporary. (Some) Favorite musicians: Brian Eno, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Tom Morello, Beethoven, Kurt Cobain, Kate Bush, Outkast, Patti Smith.

 

JESSE CHARNOW : Drums and percussion lessons
Jesse began studying piano at 5 years old. At the age of 7, he began to study drums from private teachers. At age 13, he joined his first band as a drummer and began performing professionally in California. Since then he has consistently been involved in musical performance and education.
Jesse has studied and played with Ravi Shankar, Anoushka Shankar, Tim Shea, Richard Wilson, Zoro, Chuck Silverman, the Mira Costa Jazz Band, the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, the California Symphony Orchestra, and rock legend Ike Turner.
His performances cover a broad spectrum of music, including classical symphonic works, jazz, world fusion, blues, soul, funk and rock. He has performed in many countries including, The United States, Canada, Australia, India, Thailand, Scandinavia, The United Kingdom and throughout Europe. Based in California, he continues to be involved in various recording projects, live performance and education.
