This year we are taking Groundwaves online.
With ambitions to keep Groundwaves going in 2020, and in response to COVID-19, Murs in partnership with the Music District has formulated an online format for our Hip-Hop open mic event. Any MC from the Rocky Mountain region is eligible, as well as any previous participants, regardless of region… click here to submit to Groundwaves 2020. To help artists get the most out of the new Groundwaves format, we have gathered a selection of resources to help you create in these new times. Check them out below.
What is Groundwaves?
Created by Murs and inspired by such historical hip hop open mics as New York’s Lyricist Lounge and Nuyorican Poet’s Cafe and Los Angeles’ Good Life Cafe and Project Blowed, Groundwaves aims to develop and amplify the already strong Colorado hip-hop scene and artists via a vital, authentic, and critical format. Once a month, aspiring rappers and hip-hop artists from across Colorado and beyond will converge at the Music District to test their skills and abilities in an open mic format, where Murs and an audience of peers are the judges. Murs, his team, and the Music District will use their expertise, resources, and industry connections to mentor and maximize the potential of the most promising participants – but it’s the hip-hop and music communities as a whole that will benefit most from the collective energy and inspiration.
