Groundwaves, the Music District’s monthly hip-hop open mic is back for its third year as an exciting, interactive, FREE, virtual event for Rocky Mountain MCs.

Created and hosted by legendary West Coast rapper Murs, and inspired by historical hip-hop open mics such as New York’s Lyricist Lounge and Nuyorican Poet’s Cafe, and the Good Life Cafe and Project Blowed in Los Angeles, Groundwaves aims to develop and amplify the already strong Rocky Mountain hip-hop scene and artists through a vital, authentic, and critical format. Once a month, emerging hip-hop artists from across Colorado and beyond come together to showcase their skills and abilities, where Murs and an audience of peers are the judges. Artists are invited to submit original videos ranging from live performances, to freestyle flows, to fully produced music videos to participate in Groundwaves events which take place third Thursdays from May-October on

Murs, his team, and the Music District use their expertise, resources, and industry connections to mentor and maximize the potential of the artists. Ultimately, it’s the hip-hop community at large that benefits most from the collective energy and inspiration of Groundwaves.
