Thank you to everyone who was part of Groundwaves 2020! Keep an eye out for more Groundwaves in 2021.

Created by Murs and inspired by historical hip-hop open mics such as New York’s Lyricist Lounge and Nuyorican Poet’s Cafe, and the Good Life Cafe and Project Blowed in Los Angeles, Groundwaves aims to develop and amplify the already strong Colorado hip-hop scene and artists through a vital, authentic, and critical format. Once a month, aspiring rappers and hip-hop artists from across Colorado and beyond will converge at the Music District to test their skills and abilities in an open mic format, where Murs and an audience of peers are the judges. Murs, his team, and the Music District will use their expertise, resources, and industry connections to mentor and maximize the potential of the most promising participants – but it’s the hip-hop and music communities as a whole that will benefit most from the collective energy and inspiration.

In the summer of 2020, with ambitions to keep Groundwaves going in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Murs in partnership with the Music District formulated an online format to continue our hip-hop open mic event.
