Description

The Music District celebrates DJ culture and scratching with a new workshop, Turntablism: The Live Manipulation of Sound. Enjoy a brief presentation, a handful of turntablism showcases highlighting the spectacular art form, and a Q&A session in closing.

DJing is all about the music. It teaches everything from music theory and appreciation, to its history and application. Specifically, teaching the techniques central to DJing and the vinyl-wizardry that is turntablism, requires introducing basic musical concepts. Prepare to gain an intelligent perspective on the foundational element and evolution of hip-hop and scratching, the DJ, and walk away with a deeper understanding about the roots of the turntable art form.

Bio: Diego Felix, aka DJ Full Metal, has quickly built a reputation as a ‘DJ’s DJ’ in Northern Colorado. Since picking up a pair of turntables in 2012, Full Metal has competed in the world-famous DMC DJ Championships; opened for numerous nationally-touring acts coming through Colorado (Waka Flocka, Dizzy Wright, Obie Trice, Shwayze); traveled and performed at SXSW as part of the 2015 Colorado Music Party; and organized NoCo’s first monthly scratch night where DJs (hip-hop, edm, club, etc) can come together and scratch some vinyl.
