Colorado Cobra: Musical Improv Games

Living Room

Musicians from all over Colorado and out of state will gather to be perform John Zorn’s musical game piece “Cobra.”  Musicians are welcome to bring their acoustic instruments, as we will be teaching the piece throughout the performance, and have people from the audience sit in at the end. It’s a fun piece to watch live, and the session will help demystify experimental music!

John Zorn is a New York based composer and saxophonist involved in a variety of genres: jazz, rock, classical, world, improvised, and soundtracks. He incorporates diverse styles in his compositions which he identifies as avant garde or experimental.

“He’s a difficult person to pair down because he has his own record label, has helped produce hundreds if not thousands, of records, has written thousands of compositions in a wide variety of styles, and also has his own club in NYC called “The Stone.” The Cobra piece is just a microcosm of the giant musical world that he lives in” – Matt Smiley
