Workshop: The process of taking the piano stride style from likes of Scott Joplin, Tom Turpin, and Joseph Lamb, and translating it to guitar. From there, showing how ragtime evolved, how ragtime is viewed today, and how it can still be a relevant American music style. 

Performance: In Adventures in Ragtime, Nathan Smerage performs ragtime music on solo guitar, from originals to covers, sophisticated stride-style to rural grit, showcasing the lasting impact this music has made upon popular music. This workshop and performance is a stop on his tour from Sante Fe to Minneapolis. His workshop and performance are free and open to the public. 

Bio: Nathan Smerage is a talented fingerstyle guitarist from Santa Fe, New Mexico. Graduating from Santa Fe University of Art and Design in 2016 in Contemporary Music Performance, his style focuses on the early blues, ragtime, and old time music of America. He released his debut EP, ‘Rain Check’, in April 2016, and is set to release a full length album by summer 2017. Smerage has been hailed by the Santa Fe Reporter as, ‘one hell of a guitarist’ (Alex DeVore, Santa Fe Reporter Music Issue, June 8th, 2016).
